How to create a best seller collection on Shopify

Best seller collections are typically some of the best converting collection types on any Shopify store.

But creating a Best Seller collection can be tricky - because Shopify doesn't offer an easy way to do it.

Here's how you can create one for your store step by step.

Creating a best seller collection

  1. Log In: Access your Shopify admin panel.

  2. Collections: Go to Products > Collections.

  3. New Collection: Click on Create collection.

  4. Name Your Collection: Enter a title like "Bestsellers".

  5. Automate the Collection:

    • Choose the automated collection type.
    • Set very open conditions so that most of your product catalog makes it into the collection
  6. Inventory and Pricing: Adjust these settings to suit your needs.

  7. Sort by Best Selling: In the Products menu, set the Sort to "Best Selling"

You'll end up with a large collection in terms of product count, but the best selling products will appear at the top.

Remember, to have a bestseller collection, you need to have sales data. Shopify can automatically populate this collection based on your store’s sales performance if you set the correct conditions. Keep monitoring and updating the collection as needed based on sales trends and inventory.

Why best seller collections are so useful

Why do best seller collections convert at a much higher rate than the rest of the collections on your site?

Because they act like a giant filter that identifies only the best products on your site based on the collective preferences of your entire customer base. No matter how much effort you put into merchandising your collections, the ultimate way to judge the success of a product is whether or not it sells. And when you have sales information based on thousands of visits from all of your customers, you may as well use it to your advantage.

They're also the ultimate form of social proof. When your customers visit a best seller collection, they know that lots of people have already purchased the items in that collection. That gives them the confidence they need to purchase it for themselves.

So, while it may seem counter-intuitive to place products next to one another that don't have much in common, it's a powerful technique to drive sales because it does crowd-sourced trend identification and social proof.

How you can use Entaice to surface best sellers across all your collections

With Entaice, you can take the best sellers concept and apply it to all of your collections.

Entaice will automatically identify the best selling products in each of your collections based on the lookback window you select (i.e. how many days worth of data you want to use.)

Then it will push those products to the top of your collection, and it will update the order of products every two hours based on your latest sales data. You won't have to pull weekly sales reports and then manually drag and drop products into new positions every Monday.

While Shopify has a built-in "Best Selling" sort, that option will only use all time sales data, which isn't helpful when trends change on a monthly or even weekly basis. It also won't factor in inventory levels or allow you to pin products to the top of your collection. You're just left with whatever was best selling since 2019 in the first position.
